Lab finishing is primarily about thinning the propeller blades — carefully removing material from the blade faces and edges to reduce thickness beyond what the propeller comes with off the factory floor. Verifying pitch, cup, and rake consistency is part of the process too, but blade thinning is the main event and the biggest driver of the performance gain.
Why blade thickness matters
Cast propellers come from the factory thicker than they need to be — the extra material is there for manufacturing durability and cost, not performance.
